Exercise 06.04: Hyphenation and Justification

Goal

The primary goal if this exercise is to develop a sophisticated awareness of the skill of copyfitting using hyphenation and justification (H&Js).

Objective

Overriding the default settings for text blocks in a large range of typefaces provides necessary experience needed to adequately perform this delicate skill.

Background Reading

Part One

Using the template provided, substitute the default font with one from each of the following categories of the Adobe Fonts Favorites or AFFEE collection: old style, transitional, modern, slab serif, sans serif, display (may go outside AFFEE on display only). The exercise requires a total of six prints and PDFs for credit.

Pay careful attention to the positive and negative space relationship using the guidelines from the readings posted in D2L, namely Hill (Alignment) and Craig Type. Resist the temptation to use the same settings for each set. Each text block requires attention to their specific purpose and unique attributes.
