Goal
The goal of this assignment is to create a connection between the conceptual development phase and the representation phase of a project.
Objective
Brainstorm and collect representative artifacts that documents your conceptual ideas, provides comparative research and reminds you of your creative strategy. Posting the results using a digital portfolio service will introduce basic web skills using a portfolio based content management system (CMS).

Assignment
Choose your favorite genre of music. Using chapters three and five of the Santoro book and your experience gained by completing Exercise 01.01 and 02.01, develop a concept that represents the attitude, essence and lifestyle associated with that particular musical culture. Create a digital portfolio for use with this project and throughout the semester.
Part One
Brainstorm using the “Word Technique” found on p 122 or “Random Word Technique” found on p 137. Do not unnecessarily constrict your media types or connections at this stage. If the project is represented as a funnel, this stage is the widest part at the top. Include evidence of brainstorming with the project.
Part Two
Ultimately, you will generate a digital version of a mood board similar to the one created in Exercise 02.01. Use your discoveries from Part One as inspiration and an organization tool to develop a visual feel of what a possible design solution my take. Do not limit your collection to physical media, but also create a storage folder that contains clips of music, videos or web links that also reflect your findings.
Upload photos of sketches and ideas for Part One and Two to the appropriate D2L dropbox.
Part Three
Using your Adobe Creative Cloud Portfolio account to create a digital version of the board. Sign in to https://portfolio.adobe.com/. Select any theme. Click the “Add Content” button on the left and create a new Gallery named “ORU: ART 218 Graphic Design I Gallery”. Next, navigate to the new gallery and make a new page. Title this page the name of this assignment, or “Assignment 01.02: Concept Application”. Use the Add Content tools, such as the Photo Grid to add photos of your research from parts one and two.
Part Four
This section is the narrowest part of your funnel, so precision is key. Write one sentence statement summarizing your work to this point. Elaborate on additional details as necessary in outline form, including various conceptual and formal connections you discovered.
Use the Add Text tool in the Add Content tool box to place this statement on the page. Update and publish the site. Navigate to the assignment page and take a screen shot. Upload the screen shot to the appropriate D2L dropbox and place a direct link to the page in the comments section.
To take a screen-shot:
- Command-Shift-4-Spacebar: Takes a screenshot of the window, and saves it as a file on the desktop. The file will have a .png extension.
- Command-Shift‑3: Takes a screenshot of the entire screen, and saves it as a file on the desktop. The file will have a .png extension.
- Instead of using the keyboard shortcuts above, screenshots can be taken by using the Screenshot application included with Mac OS X. It is located at
/Applications/Utilities/Screenshot
or by searching via Spotlight in the upper right of the Mac screen. - For more information, please visit: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201361
