Goal
To understand and appreciate the implications of using time and motion as a design element to reinforce show identity over its use for an indefinite period of time.
Objective
Create an animated graphics package for a fictitious show. Highlight the programmatic content and audience interests through intentional use of motion literacy, design elements, principles and creativity.

Assignment
Create a graphics package for a “news magazine” show on a topic of your choice. The show should cover a fairly specialized subject (ie action sports, cooking, weddings, outdoor activities, travel) and would generally include interviews and B‑roll type footage. Brainstorm to create a fictional show title and premise. Carefully research your shows’s brand identity. Experiment and brainstorm to discover a unique solution. Allow your solution to emerge from your explorations.
Carefully consider the variables listed below, as well as the hypothetical relationship show’s content to the visible and dynamic elements of the package. Representational images, video, audio, color, light, and texture are permissible.
Consider your variables:
- typeface, type size, weight, color, texture, focus, orientation, location
- entrance, performance, exit
- sequence, speed, pacing, transition, transformation, time
- tone of voice, emotion, feeling, atmosphere, interpretation.
Part One
Upon approval from the instructor, develop a storyboard that represents the key elements and animation frames of your package. Scan illustrations and create digital files for submission. Make any necessary assumptions or declarations about the context at this time. Supplemental footage and audio is required.
The package must include all of the following items for Part Two:
- 1 Opener (30 seconds); includes title and key production personnel
- 2 Bumps (2−5 seconds each); transition into and out of show and commercial breaks
- 1 Lower Third sample (3−5 seconds); primary name and title
The package must include all of the following items for Part Three:
- 1 Transition (5−10 seconds); segue from interview to beginning of feature story
- 1 Tag (10−20 seconds); talking head shot or voice over with additional information section
- 1 Closing (20−30 seconds); must include credits and any rights information used in production of package
Part Two
Complete your animation and package using any necessary software and techniques. Publish each movie individually.
Part Three
Complete your animation and package using any necessary software and techniques. Publish each movie individually.
