Objective

Background Reading

Assignment

The assignment is simple in principle, but complex in application. To complete the assignment, you must participate in the successful completion of all assigned projects. As the projects become complex and overlap with other projects, the ability to organize one’s time and efforts is challenging. To that end, proper use of the course project management site, calendars and storage space is essential. Assessment for this assignment is based on instructor’s observations and peer evaluations when needed, with appropriate distinctions for project complications and circumstances.

Part One

The class is organized into groups. Project managers are also assigned based on previous performance, strengths and interests. New students are organized into project based groups as appropriate to the class makeup.

Part Two

The course instructor will meet with project managers to discuss details, deadlines and artifacts related to each project. Project managers are responsible for keeping a time record of all projects, collecting necessary materials and proofs for archiving, meeting deadlines and proper communication with the client, the instructor and other students.

Students are required to log time spent working on projects, produce assigned materials as requested, follow archival procedures, meet deadlines and communicate with the instructor and project managers.

The course website is accessible after completion of Exercise 01.01: Student Contact Information. Students are to use the templates and instructions provided to produce, label, organize and store the various production design solutions and working documents.

Part Three

A project evaluation is made upon the completion of each assigned project. Evaluations are made in consultation with students, both apprentice and project manager, but based primarily on the instructor’s perspective. A final review of the semester’s work will serve to form the final assessment score.
