Background Reading

Assignment

Finding information in an overabundance of messages, images and videos is often overwhelming. Creating a message that resounds and stands out from the others is easier with clear communication through visual means. Create a series of corresponding images for use in multiple social media streams that promote the selected event or location. Using the background reading and the intended audience, tailor the message to match to communicate.

Part One

Create a series of three images/geotags for one (1) of the following location/events:

Do not use existing logos, but incorporate colors and conceptual messages related to the activities of the locations. Brainstorm several and look for connections. Ultimately, each image should have a level of consistency in all forms, yet a degree of diversity for each. Sketch and plan an image idea for media platform.

Part Two

Create a digital mockup of the two best concepts for testing. Show both concepts to a minimum of five (5) non-design majors and record their comments with words or video. Review and summarize these comments before making corrections and implementing the entire solutions in Part Three. Submit both concepts and evidence of review to the appropriate D2L dropbox for assessment (effective after 03.03.2024).

Part Three

Create a complete and polished set of RGB images at 150 dpi in appropriate format. Create a new document and create art boards, and ultimately images, at the specified sizes. Relabel each art board with the platform name and purpose so name will be visible upon export (edited 03.11.2022) Must include the following:

  • Facebook (profile 180 x 180 px Cover Photo 820 x 312 px, JPG)
  • Instagram (profile 110 x 110 px and post image 1080 x 1080 px, JPG)
  • Snapchat Geo Filter (simulation only, use stand in background image, 1920 px vertical x 1080 px horizontal, JPG)

Part Four

Measure the communication by resurveying test subjects. Summarize differences, provide rational to design elements and principles that contributed to the improvement of the solution. Submit both concepts and evidence of review to the appropriate D2L dropbox for assessment (effective after 03.03.2024).
